Keep an Open Mind

It’s hard to be on certain social media platforms and not be overwhelmed with strong opinions along the entire scope of thought. Keep in mind that if you’re a trial lawyer, your venire will be comprised of these individuals with strong opinions about politics, religion, media and the like. Study and understand the full spectrum of points of view and why they hold them. Folks are who they are and it’s naive you’ll change their world view over a week long or several week long trial. So if you can’t change another’s perspective, the second best thing is to fully understand it, and see what individuals with those perspectives respond to, in terms of themes and theories, in terms of witnesses and exhibits. If you’re given lemons, you need to learn how to make lemonade.
